These are environment color studies that I'm working on for a not-for-profit organization called Harassmap, which is located in Egypt. I've been volunteering with another not-for-profit organization called Peacegeeks and through them I started working on this animation project for Harassmap. I've done the character designing and the environment designs. We're nearing completion so I've got to start finishing these paintings up. Any critique/advice would be greatly appreciated.
The first and second instances seem, in my opinion, the most adequate choices.
ReplyDeleteThey both reflect correctly on the time of day the scene is taking place and center our attention to the characters.
While the third and fourth ones are a tad overly saturated and alienate the scene, unless said scene was meant to have a vintage kind of effect, in which case, could be better conveyed as a lens filter for the camera following them, not for the color choices in question.
As I said, depending on the time of day or atmosphere you are going for, the first or second instances seem to me the way to go. Hope it helps. Looking good, Sunny!
I think the first 2 work better as well due to the color temperature. Because your characters are primarily warm, having a very warm background fights with that. If those characters are final in their color design, I think you'll have to design more cools into your environment. What is the final product for them?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the feedback guys! I agree that the first two work the best. However, the person in charge of the project said she liked the last one the best. She said it had the brightest tones and that's what they wanted. I've done a new "hybrid" version where I combined the last one with the cooler tones from the top two. I think it's working a lot better now.
ReplyDeleteJake, the final product will be an animation and perhaps more after that. I agree with the cooler tones and the characters are not fully finalized yet so there's still lots to play with.
Thanks again guys! :D
