Today I focused more on using what I learned in the past couple of days in an actual piece. This painting is a tattoo design for my friend. He wanted a cool distorted skull with pin striping on its bony surface, which I still have to do. He also wanted black candles burning inside the eye sockets all the while the entire skull is resting on a carpet of hibiscus flowers.
Studying up on the actual information about the human skull definitely helped me while I was doing this painting. With the information in my mind, I could start to caricaturize the skull and give it a whole new personality while keeping some elements of anatomical structure in tact. All in all I'm having a really good time painting this image.
